Fernie (in winter)

Ferine is a cute town and a weekend getaway from Calgary. Fernie is approx. 3 hours from Calgary, a drive through the beautiful Crowsnest pass. Drive to Fernie can be down either on cowboy trail highway 22 or Highway 2 south. Cowboy trail is the scenic route, and we took that route.

On the way we stopped at Diamond Valley town for a quick stroll to explore this sweet place with a lot of history. This is a town combined from older towns Turney Valley and Black Daimond. Town has some preserved old buildings and there are writings/pictures on these buildings that we can read about its history.

Lundbreck falls

A drive to Waterton or Fernie is incomplete without a stop at the beautiful Lundbeck falls. In every season the falls looks so different.

Ferine Ski resort

A great ski resort with tons of snow always – Fernie Alpine Resort

Frank slide museum

On our way back we visited Frank slide museum. Frank slide was a massive rockslide of turtle mountain in 1903. Turtle mountain was always unstable and the natives called it the mountain that moves and never used to come near it. Miners from across the world came in and started mining inside turtle mountain for coal which increased its instability. The slide buried half of the town called Frank (in the name of Henry Frank who owned the coal company). The museum has so much of information and they have interesting movies of the incident.
