Zion National Park, Utah

One word to describe this park is “majestic”. Huge red sandstone mountains towering on both sides of the road, and the virgin river flowing through the middle makes it a crazy beautiful sight. Navajo sandstone, rich in iron, makes it red in color. The Zion canyon scenic road is only 7miles long ( 11.3 kms). If you take the shuttle Bus, there is 7 stops in total and each of the stops have some viewpoints and hikes.

We had 1.5 days to explore this park. The half day was spend exploring via the shuttle bus and the full day was spend exploring via ebikes. With the shuttle bus we got down only at stop 7(the final stop) and walked the riverside trail to the start of Narrows hike. With the ebikes, we rented it at one of the shops in Springdale town right outside the Zion entrance and rode until the Stop: Big bend and on the way back did the Scout’s lookout hike from the Stop: The Grotto.

Biking the Zion

The best way to explore Zion National Park is by e-bikes. E-bikes can go up to 25km/hr and the downhills are a super cool ride. The day we did this was very hot, like 42C, so even the downhill ride gave us flaming hot wind. The views of those red rock mountains are so majestic.

There is so many ebike rental options in Spirngdale. Here is link to one of them https://zionpeddler.com/how-it-works/

Scouts lookout hike

Scouts lookout hike (a bit below Angels landing), Zion National Park. Its a crazy beautiful hike featuring the most amazing switch back views. We biked to “the grotto”, on the scenic route and started the hike. Crossed a bridge over the virgin river, a set of longer switchback, a canyon and a set of smaller switchback to the top. We had to stop bit below the Angels landing peak as you need permit to climb the last section. After a whole day of biking around, we did the hike in the evening and it was scorching hot of 42C that day.

Shuttle bus stop 7: temple of Sinawava and Riverside Trail

Stop 7: Temple of Sinawava

This stop has a riverside trail, a short walk that leads to the starting point of the narrows hike. Narrows hike is one of the most majestic hikes in the park. You walk through the virgin river with towering rock cliffs on both sides total of 8.9 miles (14.32kms). People rent out special water boots and hiking poles to do this hike. We didn’t have time to explore it 😭 (definitely coming back to do this hike one day) and we spend the time on riverside trail and in the virgin river at end of this trial.
