Little Lougheed

Little Lougheed, Kananaskis: This is a 5 km hike but took us 7 hours to complete with a lot of breaks. Very challenging trail but well worth the effort. Trail starts in the forest, and we come across a beautiful stream, surrounded by lush green moss. Few logs make small bridges to cross the stream. We come out of the forest area and the scramble begins. A mix of big and medium rocks in the beginning, narrow ledges and then you reach a false peak. Again, a small section of forest and then we come out to more climbing. Towards the stop is scree slope with smaller rocks. The view of Spray lakes from the top is so gorgeous and looks like a painting. Most of us stopped a couple of hundred meters below the peak as the thought of coming down that steep scree part scared us. But my son was determined to conquer the peak, and he achieved it along with his dad.

The pics below are from 2 different times we did this hike. One time it was pretty smoky due to forest fires.

  • Forest section at the beginning of hike and moss surrounded stream
  • Scramble section soon after the forest area. we already get the spray lakes view

Spray lake view keeps getting better !

  • Nearing the false summit:
  • False Summit
View from False summit (Smoky env) : The narrow ledge we climbed up
A nice resting spot
